A place to pause amongst chaos.

Sydney Park: a Secret paradise in the centre of inner city density.

Many years ago, I lived in Erskineville and Sydney Park was my closest patch of green. I used to walk my dog there and watch the handful of people that used the park for exercise. Fast forward many years later and this place has truly blossomed.

These days, the park is full of people from all walks of life. The walking tracks have been upgraded, an extensive playground plus cafe added and every Saturday you'll find bike school happening in the purpose built Sydney park Cycling centre.

The park, once the site for the old brickworks (the brick kilns have not been used for more than 60 years but the historic brick chimney structures remain), is also home to the AIDS memorial, 40 hectares of lush grass, landscaped gardens, rolling hills, meandering pathways and picturesque wetlands.

What I like most about this Sydney Secret Place is that it's a lovely place to stop and reflect on both my own personal growth and that of the land I'm standing on.

If you have not been there before, next time you're driving down the Princess Highway  on your way to Ikea, I urge you to pull into one of the many carparks surrounding the park and take a good walk around. I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised by its beauty and size.

How to get there:

Address: Sydney Park Rd, St Peters NSW 2044

Opening Hours: All year round.

Public Transport: If you’re heading to the park by public transport, St Peters train station is just across the road. There are also a few bus routes that stop nearby, such as the 370 and 422. Look for routes that travel down Sydney Park Road, Princes Highway and King Street.

By car:

There are 4 car parks around Sydney Park:

  • Barwon Park Road (nearest to playground and brick kilns)

  • Sydney Park Road (nearest to cycling centre)

  • Euston Road (nearest to Alan Davidson Oval and Sydney Park Pavilion)

  • Campbell Street (nearest to wetlands).
